First Stages Event kicks of Sunday 27
Dust off your hats, umbrellas, grab your coolers, clean off the grill - the tabanca has finally come to an end. The 2011 Rally Season is about to begin..............When last yuh take a Wine on ah Sout' Stage?
Sunday February 27 marks the official start to the 2011 Championship Season. With a few of the big guns missing from the line up, there is going a mad grab for points from the rest of the field who know that this first event could mean an important head start. While most of the spectators are going to be enjoying the lead up to Carnival, the crews will be doing their final preparations in anticipation of a Cedar Hill stage that was last run in 2009. New to some drivers but most of the field should take some comfort in the familiar location.
New for the 2011 Season is the Red Bull corner where spectators will have tents, parasols, and the Pinzi Music Truck to keep them entertained for the day. This corner will be clearly marked on the map and will be very easy to get to off the main road. The Rally starts at 10am and there will be 8 competitive stages (4 Fwd and 4 in the Rev direction). Back again for 2011 is Jamaican 2WD Champion Bobby Marshall, who will be defending his Group 2-3 title, and for the first time running the entire TTRC Championship Season - Harold Morley from Barbados in his Group N Subaru N14.
2010 Champion Rezan Mohammed (Shell / Vigourade) is coming back this year to defend his title but the rumours are starting to go crazy as there was a new car seen in his camp over the weekend. We have few details to date but so far as the story goes, he has upped the ante and is looking to challenge once again for the fastest man on the gravel. 2010 Rookie of the Year David Coelho will be back alongside James Harris (the sane one.....sorry Kamikaze) in their Subway / Total Mitsubishi Evo IX. David ended last season seconds off the lead times and is probably going to be challenging for top spot this year. No stranger to rallying but certainly new comer to Trinidad Mark Williams has done some improvements to his Evo 5 Group N machine and should be up there on Sunday as well. 2010 Rookie Christian Bourne (Crism Mitsubishi Evo 7) finished last season with a solid performance and could also be a threat.
2WD sees some interesting moves as well, with Rezan Mohammed coming with a surprise to throw this group on its head. Bobby Marshall will surely be looking to take top spot in 2WD after his 'shoulda won' incident in Rally Finale seeing him settle for 2nd last year. There is a newcomer out of the Suzuki camp that could be a big threat on the gravel given his very experienced racing background. Ryan Peyrau will be needing all his experience in Circuit racing and Karting to get his newly built Suzuki Sport up to its potential. He can drive yes but can he upset the apple cart of the TTRC 2WD championship? - All this and more will be decided on Sunday down at Cedar Hill.
This is the first event for the year and considered the warm up to Rally Trinidad 2011 for both Drivers and Spectators alike. Check out the map and directions to the stage. See you all down there!
