Well to know who are and where you are going, it’s often a good idea to know where you have come from. So here’s a brief history of how it all began and what we do now.

1979 - August – The TTRC held its first General Meeting and elected Mr. John de Freitas as President and Robert de Verteuil as Secretary/Treasurer. Back then the main objective was ‘to promote and organize competitive events in all forms for the benefit and enjoyment of members and invited guests’. The first registered office (for the first 5 years) of the TTRC was actually in the T&T Fire Services Headquarters on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.

1980 – December – The TTRC held its first Annual General Meeting, and has followed suit every year since, each year appointing an executive to manage the affairs of the Club. Some of the veteran members include Ian McDowell, Kenny Rampersad, Rawle Mahabir, and Stanley McMillan who all served for a number of years and helped pave the way for the future of the TTRC.

1986 – January - The TTRC was registered with the Ministry of Sport, Culture, and Youth Affairs, as a bona-fide organization – a distinction that still holds to this day with the TTRC being recognized as the NSO for Rallying in Trinidad and Tobago. Later that year the TTRC made its first ever nomination into the annual Witco Sports Awards. We have to say ‘big up’ to the first ever nominee Mr. Winston Wei Lung who in 1985 was the TTRC Sportsman of the Year.

From our humble beginnings over 30 years ago, the TTRC has become one of the largest active motorsport organizations in Trinidad and Tobago. We are the National Sporting Organization (NSO) for Rallying and are responsible for the two disciplines of Navigation and High Speed Stages. A team of 11 individuals form the TTRC Executive, which is voted in once a year at the Club’s AGM. This team works tirelessly in keeping pace with the growing popularity in the Stages events in recent years and the TTRC has remained focussed on keeping pace with our Caribbean counterparts Barbados and Jamaica. Members of our Club regularly compete in overseas competitions and often bring home silverware reminding everyone that the T&T teams can bring the heat on race day. The TTRC organizes approximately 15 Events every year including our Championship Series, a major International Rally, and numerous charitable events. With a growing list of competitors and an ever expanding membership base, the TTRC is positioned well to cement T&T as a thriving motorsport destination.
